Hayel Saeed Opens Two Chevening Scholarships for Yemenis to Study in Britain
Two fully funded scholarships will give Yemeni students the opportunity to pursue one-year master’s degrees at universities in Britain under a new partnership between the Hayel Saeed Anam Group and Partners and the British Embassy in Yemen.
The scholarships are being offered through the Chevening programme for the 2027/2028 academic year, with the partnership set to continue for the 2028/2029 and 2029/2030 academic years.
The initiative aims to support Yemeni talent and enable young professionals to gain international academic and professional knowledge and experience in fields linked to Yemen’s needs and development priorities.
Specialisations Aligned with Yemen’s Needs
The priority fields include artificial intelligence, digital transformation and data-driven governance, as well as economic recovery and private-sector development, food and water security, and resilience to climate change.
The selection of these fields reflects a focus on investing in areas that can help build Yemeni capabilities equipped to address economic, social and environmental challenges and support sustainable development.
Nabil Hayel Saeed Anam, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of the Hayel Saeed Anam Group and Partners – Yemen Region, said the initiative aims to help prepare a new generation of future leaders and equip them with the knowledge, skills and international experience needed to address challenges and advance sustainable development in Yemen.
He stressed that the group remains committed to investing in education and developing the capabilities of Yemeni young people, as well as continuing to work with international educational institutions and the Chevening programme to expand educational opportunities for Yemeni talent, particularly in communities affected by conflict.
British Embassy: An Investment in the Next Generation of Leaders
British Ambassador to Yemen Abda Sharif welcomed the partnership, saying it reflects a belief in the power of education to bring about meaningful change and confidence in the potential of Yemeni young people.
She said providing talented Yemenis with access to world-class education and international networks represents an investment in the next generation of leaders who can contribute to shaping Yemen’s future.
Applications Open Until October 2026
Applications for the 2027/2028 academic year are now open and will remain available until 6 October 2026 at 11:00 GMT.
Applications must be submitted directly through the Chevening programme, in accordance with its eligibility requirements and established selection criteria.
Chevening is the British Government’s international scholarship programme. Over the years, it has supported Yemeni scholars and helped build a network of 254 alumni in Yemen.
Under the new partnership, two scholarships will be funded each year throughout the duration of the partnership, giving Yemeni talent the opportunity to study at universities in Britain and benefit from the academic and professional experience offered through studying in Britain.
An Opportunity for Yemeni Talent
The initiative is particularly significant because it focuses on fields directly connected to the challenges facing Yemen, while providing young Yemeni talent with an opportunity to pursue advanced university education and gain international experience in Britain.
The continuation of the scholarships across three academic years will also broaden the initiative’s reach, allowing more qualified Yemeni talent to pursue academic and professional opportunities in Britain.
