Ahmed Alnaouq Honoured Among UK Arab Figures of the Year 2024
Palestinian journalist Ahmed Alnaouq was chosen to be honoured at the 2024 Al Arab in UK (AUK) Gala Dinner for his significant contributions to defending Palestinian rights and amplifying Palestinian voices worldwide, even through the tragedy of losing tens of his close relatives in the onslaught on Gaza.
Alnaouq currently works as an Advocacy and Outreach Officer at the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and is also a prominent figure at Palestine Deep Dive, a platform that aims to expose Israeli violations and provide independent Palestinian narratives. The Gala, which will take place on October 21, 2024, at the Hilton London Metropole, is themed “United for Gaza” and will honour individuals who have made a profound impact in supporting the Palestinian cause.
Who is Ahmed Alnaouq?
Ahmed Alnaouq is a Palestinian journalist and human rights advocate from Gaza, who earned a Master’s degree in International Journalism from Leeds University through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship. Alnaouq is one of the co-founders of the project We Are Not Numbers, which trains young Palestinians to tell their personal stories in English, helping to humanize the statistics of conflict by bringing forward the lived experiences of Palestinians under occupation
In 2024, Alnaouq continued his efforts to expose Israeli violations through his work with the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor and Palestine Deep Dive. He participated in several media appearances and events aimed at raising global awareness of Palestinian suffering. Despite the personal tragedy of losing 21 family members, including his father, in an Israeli airstrike in October 2023,
Alnaouq remained committed to his mission of telling the stories of Gaza. His writings have been published in international outlets such as The Washington Post and The New Arab, where he vividly documents the harsh impact of the blockade and occupation on the daily lives of Palestinians.
