UK TREND : Ramadan is trending across the UK

In the UK and around the world, Ramadan 2023 will start with the first day of fasting on Thursday. The religious celebration, which occurs during the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a time for worship, fasting, prayer, charity, community spirit, and spiritual growth.

Twitter has been filled with messages of congratulations for Muslims on the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan from members of the public, politicians, and social media influencers. Social media platforms have been flooded with posts about Ramadan from both Muslims and non-Muslims, with the hashtag #Ramadan 2023 trending worldwide.

The crescent moon has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia. 🌙

Subsequently, the first night of Taraweeh will commence on the evening of Wednesday, with the first day of fasting being on Thursday, insha'Allah. 💙

Sir Lindsay Hoyle , the 158^th speaker of the house of commons shared a sweet message on twitter, although he is not Muslim. He stated : “ Ramadan Mubarak ! I would like to send my warmest wishes to everyone observing the holy month of Ramadan, both here in the UK and around the world.”

Images were also shared of the light display for Ramadan in “ London’s Piccadilly circus which is the first of its kind. The project was driven by Ramadan Lights UK, founded by Aisha Desai.

London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan also shared an image of him with the Ramadan Lights in Piccadilly, along with the caption : “ For the first time ever – the West End is being lit up by a beautiful display of lights to mark the holy month of Ramadan. It was an honour to switch them on officially – ahead of the start of Ramadan”.

Academic Wasiq Wasiq tweeted “ Ramadan Mubarak. May this month be one that helps develop you spiritually and religiously. This is also a month of giving. Be generous. You have the power to transform lives.”

SNP health secretary Humza Yousaf shared that he will be fasting during Ramadan, and he knows “ it is a month of sacrifice, spirituality and gives us an opportunity to spend time with family, friends and community. I would like to wish the Muslim community in Scotland, the UK and across the world Ramadan Mubarak”.
