UK TREND : Disruptive crowds storm London’s fireworks display
Chaos ensued at London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks as large crowds barged the ticketed event. In a video posted to social media, partygoers fly past a few police officers who appear powerless to stop them from gaining entry to the event. According to the Met Police, there were several incidents between 11.05 p.m. and midnight where people tried to climb over barriers by force, with some success. People from the public expressed their outrage about the chaos on social media platforms like twitter, especially those who had purchased tickets to the event but were unable to attend because of the disruptions.

People were outraged at those who showed up at the event without tickets and caused havoc for those who had paid for tickets to have a good view of the fireworks display.

Although there were some disruptions and security personnel had trouble managing the crowds, fortunately no one was seriously hurt, and the fireworks display went off without a glitch. People expressed their relief on Twitter that it was handled effectively and did not result in a crowd crush incident similar to the Brixton’s O2 Academy incident , which resulted in two fatalities just two weeks ago. Twitter users referred to those who disrupted conversation event as “thugs.”

But nevertheless, the majority of those that attended or watched via their television’s appreciated the displayed very much and commended the police for handling the disruptive groups so that the show could still begin on schedule and be awed at by viewers around the globe.

Individuals were impressed with how spectacular the fireworks display was and with the tribute paid to Ukraine . As “ The London eye turned blue and yellow to show solidarity with Ukraine”.
