Palestinian-British Artist Sara Agha to Be Honoured at AUK Gala Dinner 2024
Palestinian-British artist and filmmaker Sara Agha is set to be honoured at the second annual AUK Gala Dinner 2024. The event, themed “United for Gaza and Lebanon,” recognises individuals who have made significant contributions in raising awareness about humanitarian issues in the region.
The event, which will take place on Monday, 21 October 2024, at the Richmond Hall in London’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, will bring together prominent Arab figures in support of relief efforts for Gaza and Lebanon.
Who is Sara Agha?
Sara Agha is a London-based artist of Palestinian descent, known for her thought-provoking works that explore themes of identity, displacement, and exile. Agha’s work often centres on the emotional and political realities faced by Palestinian refugees, highlighting their ongoing struggle through art.
Agha is also the co-founder of the Arab Film Club, a platform dedicated to screening films that highlight the complexities of life in the Arab world. The club focuses on films related to conflict, resilience, and the refugee experience, aiming to present narratives that are often overlooked in global cinema.
Why is she being recognised?
In 2024, Agha played a pivotal role in raising awareness about the Palestinian cause, particularly through her art and involvement with the Arab Film Club. Her exhibitions and film events have focused on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, using her platform to draw international attention to the plight of the Palestinian people.
Agha will be honoured at Alarab in UK (AUK) Annual Gala Dinner in recognition of her efforts to use art and cinema as tools for activism, especially in light of the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Gaza.
The event will also honour other prominent Arab figures, including Dr Ghada Karmi and Dr Ahmed Makhloutati, for their contributions to supporting the Palestinian cause. Proceeds from the event, including ticket sales, donations, and an art auction, will go towards humanitarian projects in Gaza, in collaboration with the charity Action for Humanity.
