A group of cyclists in Scotland are preparing to ride the full length of the River Clyde this weekend in a 109-mile fundraising challenge aimed at supporting Palestinian economic resilience by investing in sustainable livelihoods rather than short-term aid.

Organised by British volunteers and campaigners in partnership with Palcrafts Charity and Hadeel UK, the initiative seeks to raise funds for small-scale economic projects in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, helping Palestinian artisans and producers build long-term sources of income despite the ongoing challenges they face.

From Source to Sea

The two-day challenge begins on 27 June and concludes on 28 June 2026, taking participants from Daer Reservoir near Biggar to the Tail of the Bank in Greenock, following the River Clyde from its source to its estuary through the Scottish countryside.

Rather than presenting the event as a competitive endurance ride, organisers have designed it as an inclusive community challenge. Participants are welcome to complete the entire route, join for selected sections, or simply take part in the final miles leading to the finish.

Moving Beyond Emergency Aid

At the heart of the initiative is a broader vision of humanitarian support—one that prioritises economic empowerment over temporary relief.

Funds raised will support two interconnected objectives: financing small productive enterprises run by Palestinian artisans and producers in the occupied Palestinian territories and the diaspora, while also helping expand retail outlets and community-based projects in Edinburgh and Glasgow that promote Palestinian-made products.

Organisers say the ambition is not simply to provide financial assistance, but to help create a sustainable economic cycle capable of generating lasting opportunities for Palestinian communities.

An Open Invitation to Join

The organisers are inviting members of Britain’s Arab communities, supporters of the Palestinian cause and anyone wishing to contribute to join the initiative—whether by cycling, donating, or helping spread awareness through social media.

Supporters are also encouraged to create their own individual fundraising campaigns, widening community participation and increasing the overall impact of the project.
