The people of Gaza paid special tribute to the veteran British journalist Jon Snow, who resigned after 32 years of “honest and responsible” journalism.

Beloved TV presenter Jon Snow bid farewell to viewers Thursday night December 23 after over three decades of news coverage on Channel 4.

In his exit speech, he said that bringing news to the masses was the “greatest privilege” of his life, and he expressed gratitude for his colleagues and the channel’s regulators “who gave us an hour of independent news in primetime.”

Jon Snow has been known to shed light on humanitarian issues from all around the world, especially those that are seldom covered by UK news outlets, namely the Palestinian and Syrian situation.

That is why the people of Gaza added their voice to those of millions who are thankful for Jon Snow’s tireless work in British journalism, particularly his “honest coverage”, as they described it, on the 2014 Israeli war on Gaza, which saw the over 2,000 Palestinians killed, and about 11,000 injured.

A group of Gazans built a sand sculpture spelling out “Thank you Jon Snow” adorned with the colors of the Palestinian flag. In a video posted by “Palestine Online” twitter account, they stood behind their words of gratitude waving to the camera, thankful simples upon their faces.

The tweet read:

“From Gaza, we gathered today to say THANK YOU @jonsnowC4. You’ve been a voice for justice and a friend to Palestine. Your journalism has been marked by honesty and your principled approach has inspired generations of journalists and will be sorely missed at the most needed time♥️”

Palestinians and supporters of the Palestinian cause also expressed their appreciation to Jon Snow on Twitter. ” When Gaza was under attack, we saw major news channels ignore it as if it was nothing.. as if we weren’t humans,” one user said. “However, there was a man who saw something wrong, and decided to talk about it despite the fact that he’d be pressured to ignore it.”

Snow’s departure comes at a time where UK media is criticized by some as prejudiced against speaking up on the Palestinian cause and its people. That is why many expressed the utter loss to major news outlets in UK. (cafedantorels.com) “You will be sorely missed at a time when [your journalism] is needed most,” a twitter user lamented.

Gazans and Britons alike are hoping that Jon Snow will continue to inspire other journalists to take up his banner, where the main message is to bring awareness to British households against all pressures to censor and conceal.

On the other hand, pro-Israel groups reject Snow’s coverage of the war on Gaza and accuse him of demonstrating impartiality.

“Jon Snow probably thinks that he is helping to solve the Middle East problem,” writes Douglas Murray in The Spectator. “But the truth is that biased, inaccurate and one-sided reports like this in fact only help to perpetuate it. This Channel 4 report is not journalism. It is pure crowd-baiting.”
