Director of Bournemouth Islamic Centre Participates in Meeting with King Charles III
The Director of Bournemouth Islamic Centre, Majid Yassin, took part in a royal visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Dorset, representing the centre alongside a group of religious and community organisations that presented their work and initiatives to the King and Queen.
The visit took place in Blandford Forum on 16 July 2026, where the King and Queen met representatives of charities and organisations working across Dorset in a range of areas, including community support, support for veterans, and tackling domestic abuse, alongside groups representing faith, the arts, education and heritage.
Yassin’s participation came as part of the section highlighting the efforts of local organisations to promote community cohesion and cooperation across the county.
Letter of Thanks from the King’s Representative in Dorset
Following the visit, Yassin received an official letter dated from Michael Dooley, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, thanking him for representing Bournemouth Islamic Centre during the royal visit.
In the letter, seen by Al-arab In UK, Dooley said that the presence, enthusiasm and commitment of representatives of local organisations had contributed to the success of the day, allowing the King and Queen to gain a direct insight into the work being carried out by different organisations across Dorset.
He added that the visit demonstrated that “harmony is not merely an aspiration, but something built every day through the dedication of people” working within the local community.
The Lord-Lieutenant is the King’s official representative in the county. King Charles III appointed Michael Dooley as Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset in 2024, succeeding Angus Campbell.
“The Feedback from Buckingham Palace Was Excellent”
In his letter, Dooley revealed that the feedback he received from Buckingham Palace about the visit had been “excellent”, noting that the Palace was impressed by the warmth of the welcome, the calibre of the participating institutions and organisations, and the spirit of partnership demonstrated during the event.
Addressing Yassin, he added: “Dorset is proud of you,” thanking him for what he contributes to the county and expressing his hope of building on the momentum created by the visit and continuing to work towards a Dorset that is “healthier, kinder and more harmonious”.
The letter is consistent with the stated purpose of the royal visit, with its programme explaining that the King and Queen would learn about the work of organisations representing different sectors across Dorset, including faith groups, as part of highlighting the concept of “harmony in Dorset”.
Visit Focused on Community Work
The visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla included Blandford Forum Town Hall and the historic Corn Exchange following extensive renovation work, where they met representatives of charitable and community organisations, as well as those involved in the building’s restoration project.
They also toured exhibition stands showcasing the work of local organisations in the fields of care, community support, culture, education, faith and heritage, before meeting members of the local community outside the town hall.
Bournemouth Islamic Centre and the Central Mosque are among the well-known Islamic institutions in the area, providing religious, educational and community services to Muslims in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas. Majid Yassin, Director of Bournemouth Islamic Centre, has also featured at numerous events as the centre’s imam and as a participant in initiatives promoting interfaith dialogue and joint community work in the area.
The centre’s participation in the royal visit highlights the presence of Islamic institutions within the wider community fabric of Dorset, particularly as the meeting was partly dedicated to showcasing organisations working to promote cooperation and harmony among the different components of the local community.
