Sheikh Said Al Kamali Gives a Lecture in West London
On Sunday, June 4, 2023, Sheikh Said Al Kamali gave a lecture at the Birmingham College of Humanities (BCH), in cooperation with the West London Cultural Center (WLICC), titled “The Story of Musa SA and His Boy in Their Journey Seeking Knowledge”.
The lecture went through the Islamic tale of Prophet Musa’s SA journey alongside his boy in their quest to seek knowledge. The lecture highlighted the lessons that must be drawn from the story, and the importance of always seeking knowledge and striving to learn.
Sheikh Said Muhammad al Kamali, a jurist, preacher, and university professor, was born in Rabat in 1972. During his upbringing, he memorized the Qur’an, as he was committed for six years to go every week to the city of Marrakesh with the reciter Sheikh Abd al-Rahim Nabuli until he memorized it as well.
The sheikh learned from a group of scholars, among them Professor Dr. Farouk Hamadeh, Professor Dr. Writer and Jurist Muhammad Al-Rooki, Sheikh Writer and Poet Mustafa Al-Najjar, Sheikh Atiya Salem, Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al-Abbad, Sheikh Muhammad bin Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Al-Shanqeeti, Sheikh Muhammad bin Saleh bin Uthaymeen and others.
The Lecture by Sheikh Said Al Kamali
AlArab in UK (AUK) covered the lecture given by Sheikh Said where he started by reciting: ( And when Musa said to his servant, “I will not stop until I reach the junction between the two seas. Else, I will spend a long time seeking it” () But when they reached the point where the two rivers meet, they forgot their fish, and it took its way into the sea, as if through a tunnel.) [Suret Alkahf 18:60].
He then proceeded to ask someone from the audience to read the following hadith while he explained its meaning: (Ubai bin Ka`b told us that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘Once Moses stood up and addressed Bani Israel. He was asked who was the most learned man amongst the people. He said, ‘I.’ Allah admonished him as he did not attribute absolute knowledge to Him (Allah). So, Allah said to him, ‘Yes, at the junction of the two seas there is a Slave of Mine who is more learned than you.
“‘Moses said, ‘O my Lord! How can I meet him?’ Allah said, ‘Take a fish and put it in a large basket and you will find him at the place where you will lose the fish.’ Moses took a fish and put it in a basket and proceeded along with his (servant) boy, Yusha` bin Noon).
He continued his speech by explaining the implications of the story of Musa SA and his servant on their journey to seek knowledge.
