After Harry Kane appeared to grab his opponent’s shirt, the Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré was given a straight red card for striking Kane in the face.

The England international took advantage of the situation by theatrically falling to the ground, but contact was definitely made. But after Kane’s actions, chants of “cheat, cheat, cheat” accompanied every touch he made after that. At the final horn, he was also booed off.

The hashtags #Harry Kane, #cheating, and #embarrassing all became popular on Twitter as members of the public, particularly football fans, used it to discuss the incident. Many people were sending Kane their heartfelt sympathy and words of encouragement. Others believed he was being overly dramatic, and some were annoyed as they thought he was truly cheating.

Public figure and Broadcaster Piers Morgan were amongst those who felt bad for Kane. He stated, “thoughts and prayers for Harry Kane tonight”, Piers sent prayers for Harry and hoped that this would not be “career-ending”.

Some individuals were tweeting about how dramatic his reaction is that he should be getting an “Oscar trophy”.

They commented on the way he stayed down after the slap and how “embarrassing” it was.

Editor Sean Walsh was also in agreement with Winter, he tweeted : “I just think that Harry Kane milked it, I don’t know it might be inconclusive who knows”.

Others took to twitter that Kane’s actions were disappointing. One user said that “Kane is a sensational footballer. And you can’t raise your hands and get away with it. But Kane’s antics were absolutely pathetic. That’s simply blatant cheating.”
