It was attended by representatives of the international coalition in Sweden, Norway, France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, Malaysia, Turkey, Canada, the United States and South Africa, in addition to the International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza.
Representatives of a number of solidarity institutions with Palestine also participated in the meeting, most notably Miles of Smiles, the Muslim Association in Britain, the British Palestine Solidarity Campaign, in addition to the Popular Conferences of Palestinians Abroad, who affirmed their support for the coalition’s efforts to break the siege on Gaza and their willingness to participate in a number of concurrent activities aims to remind the meaning of Gaza and the need to end the crime of siege.
The Challenge of Ending Gaza Blockade
Zaher Birawi, President of the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza and a founding member of the Freedom Flotilla, said the coalition would resume its efforts to challenge the illegal, immoral and inhumane blockade imposed on Gaza, especially the naval blockade. This is after a break during the Corona pandemic period. He stressed that the plan to break the siege for the coming period would include sailing to Gaza, but after stopping in several ports and coastal cities in the world, especially in Europe, in order to organize media and political campaigns to restore the issue of the siege to the front of public and official attention in the world and to publicize the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza with a focus on the suffering of children and young people.
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition had organised several cruises to break the siege on the Gaza Strip, through ships that headed from several European ports. The Israeli occupation forces confronted them and prevented them from reaching the Gaza Strip. The most prominent of them was the “Mavi Marmara” ship, which was brutally attacked by the Israeli navy in 2010, during which ten Turkish solidarity activists were martyred.
