Across the world, Muslim, Arab fans were celebrating Morocco’s win as it was the first time an Arab team made it to the quarterfinals. Moreover, Morocco just became the fourth African nation to reach a World Cup quarterfinal, joining Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010).

There was celebration in the Gaza strip as if it were their own national team, illustrating the strong love and connection between Palestine and Morocco.

Furthermore, Moroccan fans raised the Palestinian flag during every match at the FIFA World Cup, demonstrating their love for Palestine. In their celebration picture after their match against Spain, the Moroccan team also carried the Palestinian flag.

Following Morocco’s victory over Spain, journalists like Richard Medhurt noted the hoisting of the Palestinian flag by the Moroccan team.

Twitter users also praised Walid Regragui, the Moroccan manager, for his excellent leadership abilities. Although he only took over in August, he has led Morocco to the quarterfinals for the first time.

Moroccan fans celebrated and praised their team, especially goalkeeper Yassine Bono, for his incredible saves. Additionally, he received the match’s player of the match award.

After a goalless draw, Achraf Hakimi scored the winning penalty as Morocco advanced through to the quarterfinals of the World Cup 3-0.

Morocco surged into the quarterfinals thanks to Hakimi’s cool performance under intense pressure. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved two of Spain’s three penalties with brilliance.

At the final whistle, Morocco fans erupted in wild celebration as their side reached the last eight for the first time, where they will face Portugal on Saturday 10th of December (15:00 GMT).

The last time Morocco reached the last 16 was in 1986, but they are now five games unbeaten in this World Cup.

With Spain losing to Russia in 2018, it is the second consecutive time that Spain has exited a World Cup at the last 16 stage.
