After being called to the River Wyre near Rawcliffe Road at 11:35 GMT on Sunday, Lancashire Police reported that they “sadly recovered a body.”

The hashtag #Nicola Bulley has been trending on Twitter since the news of the body’s recovery. Twitter was used by members of the public who had been closely following the investigation into her disappearance to express their disappointment with the heart-breaking information. Additionally, they extend their support to the family during this difficult period.

The developments, according to Home Secretary Suella Braverman, are “heart-breaking and distressing.” In a tweet, she wrote, “My thoughts are with Nicola’s family during this extremely difficult time.

A large number of individual’s took to twitter to criticize the people that have been creating theories with regards to Nicola Bulley, as well as questioning the polices effort, thus showing no consideration for the family during these challenging times.

One account shared that “ this case is a real time demonstration of how we’ve become desensitised to real life violent crime. this isn’t a tv show for people to be offering their useless theories this is the life of a real person with a real family”.

Another account shared how “ tragic and awful this experience must be for her family and especially her young children”. The number of individuals who are more concerned about whether their initial theories were right or wrong is upsetting, “ it is irrelevant”. And it must be very difficult from the family to “ try shield those children from the garbage fire of the internet”.

Individuals were sharing that even “ media coverage is a bit sickening now, as they need to give the family time to come to terms with their loss and grieve in peace”.

People were also questioning the polices work , as to how they couldn’t find the body for 3 weeks and after “searching the river”.

The majority of tweets were about how evident the police department’s shortcomings are. However, they were more concerned with providing support to Nicola Bulley’s family and close friends.
