UK TREND : Police arrest over 50 protestors at coronation causing public outrage
During the King’s Coronation, dozens of protestors were detained, including the leader of a well-known anti-monarchy group.
The Metropolitan Police in London reported that 52 people were detained after being arrested for a variety of reasons. An anti-monarchy protestor’s arrest earlier in the day has been called “alarming” by a human rights organisation.
Police arrest protestors during King’s Coronation
The news has been trending on twitter, as members of the public as well as politicians have expressed their displeasure with the metropolitan police for their unnecessary arrests. People were questioning the so-called freedom of speech rights and the rights to protest peacefully, as many anti-monarchy protestors were arrested for doing nothing.
Whether you support the #Coronation or not, every citizen in a democracy should have a fundamental right to protest.
But clearly the police do nothing about eco-warrior protests and arrest Monarchy protestors before theyve even done anything.

Member of Parliament Richard Burgeon tweeted that “ MPs must get the chance to discuss the policing of the Coronation when Parliament returns on Tuesday. The arrest of an accredited journalist, women’s safety volunteers and peaceful protestors on reportedly spurious grounds is something Parliament must take very seriously.”

People were in agreement that what happened is a serious issue as “ protestors were arrested without being told the reason for arrest”. According to the public, “ this is unconscionable and the acts of a police state not the great United Kingdom”.
With #Coronation over let’s return to stories that are very important.
Protestors were arrested today without being told the reason for arrest. This is unconscionable and the acts of a police state not the great UK

Furthermore, the police were mocked for their actions as people tweeted that “ you would think the metropolitan police would understand by now that when they overreach and arrest peaceful protestors all that happens is the cause of the peaceful protestors is highlighted”.

People were frustrated and stated, “ you cannot arrest peaceful protestors just because ‘it is an important day’. The law does not change for the coronation”.
Oooh the Met are going to get torn to pieces over the coming weeks. You can’t arrest peaceful protestors just because “it’s an important day”. The law doesn’t change for the coronation.

Twitter users also took this as a chance to demand the arrest of Prince Andrew as images were shared of him, along with the caption : “ Metropolitan police if you’re looking for people to arrest at the coronation today there’s an actual criminal taking part, rather than arresting peaceful protestors”.

Individuals also shared images of the littering and mess created by fans of the coronation. They shared “ it is a shame that the Met Police didn’t arrest all the proud and patriotic ‘ tossers ’ for littering – is that not part of their remit ? They kettle protestors, why not do same for all these and make them take it home? Hypocrisy, negligence and dereliction of duty”.
