Many took part in the second Palestinian Heritage Festival on Saturday, October 8, in Wembley, London, which was organized by The Arab Thinking Forum.

Members of both Arab and Palestinian communities enjoyed being part of the festival and were proud and excited to celebrate their heritage and roots.

The President of the Arab Thinking Forum, Muhammad Amin, welcomed everyone that was there and said: “Let us all live as Palestinians on a Palestinian day, with the taste of Palestinian food, Palestinian Dabkeh, Palestinian music, and Palestinian thobes”

He then spoke of the importance of staying true to our roots and celebrating our heritage so we do not forget the true Palestinian cause and struggle.

Besides the president, other known figures in the Palestinian community spoke at the festival, including the Palestinian ambassador to Britain Husam Zomlot, who praised the festival and condemned the Prime Minister’s, Liz Truss, recent promise to consider moving the British embassy to Jerusalem.

The ambassador had also requested an official apology From Britain for the illegal Balfour Declaration.

The head of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Professor Kamel Hawash, also thanked the organizers of the festival and called on the attendees to join the solidarity campaign, stressing the importance of supporting institutions and organizations that dedicate their work to Palestine.

In turn, Mr Helmy Harahsheh, from the Jordanian Forum in Britain, had urged the Arab Thinking Forums along with other institutions in Britain to work together to organize an event or festival for all Arabs in Britain.

At the festival, you would see many booths at each corner displaying Palestinian products, such as paintings, ornaments, traditional clothes, and more. There were many other booths that aimed to celebrate Arab roots such as bookselling.

 

The festival included other corners that tell the stories of generations in Palestine such as coins, stamps, pictures, etc.

The founder of the Bulbul Al Sharq band in Britain, Bilal Al-Asali, and the Palestinian composer and oud player Saeed Salbak also sang at the festival, in addition to an amazing performance of Palestinian dabkeh and traditional folk dances with Palestinian flags and keffiyehs.
