70 Years Old British Woman Seeking Job Due to Pension Not Being Enough
70 years old pensioner Josephine Bow stated that she is looking for a job since the €5 increase to the state pension isn’t going to be enough to cover her living costs.
Josephine told Independent.ie that even though she owns her own home, it does not mean that they have enough income.
Josephine, who has osteoporosis of the spine, says that she does not believe the government will be increasing the pension enough, and so she decided to be on her own and start looking for a job despite her age.
She had already started looking for a job and applied to a few, but she haven’t had any success yet. She said “I’m looking for a job, as I need more money coming in”
She said about the interviews she had: “People are very nice on the phone – then they don’t get back to you.”
Old People Should Be Lobbying for 10% Increase in The Pension
Ms. Bow believes that all old people should be lobbying for a 10% increase in the pension, as prices have gone up, but pensioners did not witness an increase in the budget for the past two years.
According to Josephine, the pension is the only money income for people like her, “I have expenses. I paid €792 for repairs. And as I get older and weaker, I know I’ll not be able to do all the jobs I need. I’ll have to pay someone to do them.
These unplanned expenses are what worries Josephine the most, “how will I manage when things need fixing, where will the money come from?”
She had also mentioned that life now is not the same as it used to be 30 years ago. Living costs are increasing.
As she added “But are pensioners meant to live unlike everyone else? Are we sidelined completely and left there to sit at home, without a car, without a life?” she noted that “I don’t have Netflix or a smart TV. I haven’t had my hair cut for 20 months.”
Even though pensioners will be getting an extra €28 on the fuel allowance in October but it still won’t be enough.
