Kuwait University Scholarships for Arabic and Islamic Studies

Kuwait University Scholarships for Arabic and Islamic Studies are open again for registration. The scholarships are part of the cultural agreements between Kuwait and other countries.

It is noteworthy to mention that Kuwait University is a public university that has an undergraduate program and postgraduate programs (Masters & PhD), it was established on October 8, 1966, ad it has 14 colleges across campus. The university ranks 137th in the Middle East region and 2677th globally, according to the “WIPO Matrix” ranking of universities around the world.

1- Islamic Studies

  • Islamic Jurisprudence and its Foundation (Masters and PhD)

Requirements and needed documents to apply for Kuwait University scholarships

 

Kuwait University Scholarships for Arabic and Islamic Studie

 

For Masters program applicants:

  • Certified and accredited copy of the bachelor’s degree.
  • Certified final transcripts showing the grades of all the courses the student studied at the undergraduate level
  • GPA higher than 2.67 on the four-point scale or its equivalent (good grade).

For PhD program applicants:

  • Certified and accredited copy of the master’s degree.
  • Certified final transcripts showing the grades of all the courses the student studied at the graduate level
  • GPA higher than 3 on the four-point scale or its equivalent (very good grade).

Requirements for all postgraduate programs

  1. With a certificate that proves proficiency in the Arabic language, all students must be fluent in the Arabic language.
  2. Both programs require students to memorize parts (Juz’) of the Holy Qur’an:
    • For Masters: 8 parts of the Qur’an (First 6 parts + Part Tabāraka ’lladhī & Part ‘Amma)
    • For PhD: 8 parts of the Qur’an (Staring with Surah Al-Isra until Surah Faatir)
  3. All students must pass the written and oral test of the Holy Qur’an with a score of 70% and above in order to enter the personal interview.
  4. A non-conviction certificate to show good conduct.
  5. TOEFL or IELTS certificate to prove English level
    • The TOEFL score must not be less than 400 points, and the IELTS score should not be less than 4.5 for the field of Sharia
    • The TOEFL score should not be less than 450 points, and the IELTS score should not be less than 5 for the field of Arabic language and literature
    • The result of the language test held under the umbrella of the College of Graduate Studies is accepted for residents inside Kuwait only.
  6. A health certificate (attested by the Kuwaiti embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country), proving that the applicant does not suffer from any infectious disease (AIDS, hepatitis C and B, tuberculosis, syphilis, and leprosy)
  7. Passing the medical examination in the State of Kuwait after arrival (for applicants from outside Kuwait)
  8. The applicant must be fully dedicated to studying throughout the duration of the program
  9. The birth certificate must be certified by the Ministry of Health of the applicant’s country
  10. Copy of passport (valid for at least 3 years)
  11. 6 recent coloured portraits (size 4 x 6 cm with blue background)
  12. For Kuwaiti residents, a copy of their personal ID
  13. At least two letters of recommendation (provided that they are written on an official paper belonging to the educational institution and signed in original ink) from professors who have previously taught the student, explaining the student’s adequacy and research capabilities in the field to which they are applying, with the professor’s name, phone number, address and e-mail mentioned.
  14. Copy of relevant certificates to the field to which the student is applying.

Noting that students with disabilities cannot apply for this specific scholarship.
Only non-Arab students are eligible to apply for this scholarship

A nomination does not equal acceptance. An official acceptance letter will be sent out to the students who are formally accepted into the scholarship.

 

 

For documents submitted

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate certificates must be in Arabic or translated into Arabic.
  • Academic certificates must be from universities accredited by the National Agency for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance of the Ministry of Higher Education in Kuwait.
