The Metropolitan Police has been keeping the British public updated on the murder case of teacher Sabina Nessa.

The 28-year-old teacher was fatally attacked on Friday evening. Only for her body to be found near the Kidbrooke Park Road the very next day, based on reports released in the Evening Standard.

Police Efforts

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody where he remains, police said.

Meanwhile, the Met released images taken from CCTV show a man walking in Pegler Square on the day Ms. Nessa was attacked. They have also released an image of a silver car they believe the man has access to.

Detectives are urging anyone who recognises the man and vehicle to make contact immediately.

Evening Standard reported that Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our team have been working tirelessly to find the person responsible for Sabina’s murder and this has included an extensive trawl of CCTV, work which remains ongoing.”

Notable Responses

In an interview with the BBC, Ms Nessa’s cousin Zubel Ahmed said that her parents are “inconsolable” after their loss.

“She honestly was the most caring person, kindest, sweetest girl you could meet. Sabina’s heart was as good as gold, she never had a bad word to say about anyone. Her sister is going to miss her so much,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday, a spokesman for Boris Johnson said: “You’ll appreciate I can’t comment further whilst the police (investigation) is ongoing, but as the Met Police have said, they’re using every resource available to find the individual responsible.”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said violence against women should be treated with the same level of priority as counter-terrorism.

Speaking to the PA news agency on Thursday morning, Mr Khan said: “I think we need to make sure we have a fully joined-up policy to address this issue, from school with boys being taught to respect girls and (taught) proper healthy relationship education, to the Government outlawing misogyny and making it a hate crime and making the harassment of women in a public place a criminal offence.”

In another interview with “Good Morning Britain”, Khan mentioned frightening numbers indicating that “between International Women’s Day last year and International Women’s Day this year, 180 women were killed by men across the country.”

In her tribute to Sabina, the victim’s sister said she was praying “may Allah grant her Janna. Amen.” While it is not yet clear whether the crime committed against Sabina is related at all to her family’s religion or their origin. However, it should be noted that the statistics indicate an increase in hate crimes against Muslims in Britain and the West as a whole.
