Recitation of a page from Surah Al-Isra (verses 1–7)
Poetry Recitation: “On Human” by Mahmoud Darwish
They put chains on his mouth
Tied his hands to the rock of the dead
And said: You’re a murderer!
They took his food, clothing, and banners
Threw him into the cell of the dead
And said: You’re a thief! They expelled him from every port
Took his young beloved,
Then said: You are a refugee!Oh you with bleeding eyes and hands!
The night will pass
Neither the detention room shall remain
Nor the shackles!Nero has died, but Rome did not…
She fights with her eyes! And the seeds of a dying spike
Shall fill the valley with spikes…!
Poetry Recitation: Excerpt from “Eid, in What State Have You Returned, O Eid?” by Al-Mutanabbi
Eid, in what state have you returned, O Eid?
With what has passed or with something new within you?
As for the loved ones—the desert lies between us…
If only between you and them were more deserts too!
Were it not for glory, I would not travel as I do
On rugged beasts, neither swift nor well-tamed…
