The Global Alliance for Palestine (GAFP) has announced plans for a Global Day of Action for Gaza to be held on 6 September, with coordinated demonstrations and events expected in cities across the world.

The announcement follows the alliance’s inaugural conference in London last month, which brought together delegates from over 25 countries and 65 organisations. The gathering agreed to launch a worldwide mobilisation in response to what it described as the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

According to the organisers, participants will gather in public squares, outside government offices, embassies and corporate headquarters linked to the arming of Israel. The day will feature marches, vigils, artistic performances and moments of collective silence.
The events will carry a unified call for a permanent ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, an end to international complicity, and accountability for what the group calls Israeli war crimes.

Dr Anas Altikriti, head of GAFP’s Interim Executive Committee, described the initiative as more than a protest.

“This is not simply a demonstration; it is a collective statement of intent,” he said. “On 6 September, people from every corner of the world will come together to demand an end to the genocide in Gaza and the restoration of fundamental human rights for Palestinians. It is a reminder that silence is complicity, and that sustained global action is essential to challenging the genocide and occupation”.

International steering committee

The alliance’s steering committee includes several prominent international figures:

  • Jeremy Corbyn MP, the former leader of the Labour Party and co-founder of the new party Your Party.
  • Dr Mustafa Barghouthi, Palestinian physician and politician.
  • Yanis Varoufakis, former Greek finance minister.
  • Ronnie Kasrils, anti-apartheid activist from South Africa.
  • Gerry Adams, former leader of Ireland’s Sinn Féin.
  • Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla, coordinator of The Hague Group.

Organisers say the combined expertise and political standing of these figures aim to give weight to a global movement committed to elevating Palestinian voices and challenging systems of oppression.

The alliance is urging grassroots advocacy groups, trade unions, student organisations, faith communities and wider civil society networks to use 6 September as a platform to expand efforts for Palestinian justice. GAFP is encouraging communities to coordinate local activities, sustain pressure on governments, and support ongoing campaigns against the occupation.

Beyond marches and rallies, the day is intended to deepen international solidarity and amplify the voices of Palestinians living under siege.
