Ealing Council Lights Up for Ramadan 2025 in a Historic First
Ealing Council in West London lit up a Ramadan lantern for the first time, marking the start of the holy month with an official and community celebration.
Ealing Council Welcomes Ramadan 2025
Banners welcoming Ramadan were displayed inside and outside the council building as part of the “Brightening Our Boroughs, Together in Ramadan” initiative. This campaign, launched this year, aims to raise awareness about Ramadan and encourage local officials to show support for the Muslim community.
The initiative was organised by the Arab Community Centre in Britain in partnership with Al-Arab in UK Platform and coordinated with councils across West London. It highlights the contributions of Muslims to the local community while promoting diversity and coexistence.
With the Muslim population growing in some parts of London—where they make up nearly a quarter of residents in certain neighbourhoods—this initiative carries even greater significance.
Celebrating Muslims’ Role in British Society
Rashid, a longtime Ealing resident, shared his excitement:
“I’ve lived here for 28 years, and this is the first time I’ve seen the council celebrate Ramadan.”
He added:
“It’s a fantastic initiative that should be adopted by councils everywhere, especially since many Muslims feel hesitant to put up Ramadan decorations out of fear of negative reactions.”
By fostering a sense of unity, the initiative aims to show solidarity with Muslims during Ramadan while recognising their positive role in British society.
Organisers hope it will also encourage a culture of religious inclusivity and bring more cultural diversity to London’s public spaces.
