British Palestinian Families Holds Solidarity Event in London to Honor Gaza Victims
On November 19, 2024, the British Palestinian Families Network hosted a poignant solidarity event at St. John’s Waterloo Church in London under the theme “Remember Gaza.” The gathering aimed to pay tribute to the victims of the recent conflict in Gaza and to express international solidarity with Palestinian families affected by the violence. The event also called for an immediate end to the aggression and the promotion of justice and peace.
A Diverse Program of Reflection and Action
The event began with a warm welcome from Canon Giles Goddard, followed by a presentation from Elinor Chohan. The program included a Quranic recitation by Sayed Jalal Masoomi, with translation by Azed Ikram. Ehab Al Sharief, a representative of the British Palestinian Families Network, spoke about the network’s mission to support Palestinian families and promote global solidarity. Baroness Sayeeda Warsi also addressed the audience, stressing the urgent need for international action to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s civilian population.
Art and Culture in Support of the Cause
The event went beyond formal speeches, offering emotional testimonies from families who have lost loved ones. It also featured religious reflections and prayers from both Christian and Muslim traditions, adding a deeply human element to the proceedings.
The evening included a series of cultural activities, including readings of Palestinian poetry and personal stories, as well as a musical performance by artist Said Selbaq. A moment of unity was marked when participants lit candles in a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the children of Gaza.
Focusing on Gaza’s Children
A key focus of the event was the work of the nonprofit organization “Children Not Numbers,” which provides healthcare and nutrition to children affected by the conflict. The organization shared that it had delivered medical support to over 400 children in recent months and facilitated the evacuation of 175 children for treatment outside Gaza.
Calls for Unity and Peace
Throughout the evening, speakers emphasized the importance of unity and peace, drawing inspiration from the words of poet Jalaluddin Rumi: “Love is the bridge between you and everything.” Organizers called for greater international cooperation to support the Palestinian cause and ensure justice for those affected by the ongoing conflict.
The British Palestinian Families Network, established to give a voice to families suffering from loss and hardship, reaffirmed its commitment to ending the violence in Gaza and working towards a just peace. The event concluded with a prayer offered by religious leaders from various faiths, underscoring the importance of solidarity and collective action for a more peaceful and equitable future.
The British Palestinian Families Network also encouraged attendees to support Gaza’s children through donations via a provided link or by contacting them directly via email: (Britishpalestinianfamily@gmail.com).
