On November 17, 2024, Edinburgh witnessed the inaugural Palestinian Festival, organized by the Palestinian Forum in Britain (PFB), Scotland branch. The festival served as a unique platform to showcase Palestinian culture and highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people. A total of £25,000 was raised to support humanitarian projects in Gaza and Lebanon, with an equivalent amount collected at a parallel event in London.

The festival began at 3:00 PM with registration, followed by free time for attendees to engage with the Palestinian heritage market and traditional food corner, which added a distinctive ambiance to the event. The official proceedings started with a welcoming address by the master of ceremonies, followed by a Quranic recitation and a moment of silence to honor the martyrs.

The program featured a series of poignant speeches and cultural performances. Ahmed Naouq delivered a powerful speech criticizing the British government’s current stance on the crimes in Gaza, emphasizing that “everyone knows the perpetrator and their supporters.” He also highlighted the importance of continuing Palestinian resistance and rejecting aggression.

The festival included notable artistic contributions, such as performances by the Palestinian Forum Choir and songs by artist Khairi Hatem, who concluded the event with a joint performance involving children. Speakers such as journalist Yvonne Ridley and artist Lowkey gave compelling addresses, calling for an end to genocide and rejecting Israeli occupation crimes.

A touching presentation by Mrs. Delane was one of the festival’s standout segments, alongside a fundraising session that showcased the attendees’ generosity and solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

The event concluded with a heartfelt speech by Ahmed Masharqa, the head of the Palestinian Forum’s Scotland branch and the festival director, who stressed the importance of sustained solidarity with Palestine. The significant turnout in Edinburgh highlighted growing engagement with the Palestinian cause and humanitarian support for projects that alleviate the hardships endured by Palestinians under dire circumstances.

A Continuing Struggle
