Sudanese Community in London Brings Together Over 300 People for Ramadan Iftar
On Sunday evening, 8 March 2026, the Sudanese Community and Information Centre in London (SCIC) hosted its annual Ramadan iftar in London, bringing together more than 300 members of the Sudanese community from across the capital.
A large turnout from the Sudanese community

The event drew a significant turnout that exceeded the hall’s capacity, with some attendees waiting outside as organisers worked to accommodate everyone. The gathering brought together Sudanese residents of different generations and social backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the community in Britain.
According to organisers, the event was among the largest Sudanese Ramadan gatherings held in the UK this year. In addition to members of the Sudanese community, the iftar was attended by guests from British and Arab backgrounds, highlighting the spirit of cultural exchange and solidarity that characterises such occasions.
Honouring pioneers of the community

A key moment of the evening was a recognition ceremony honouring several members of the “first generation” of the Sudanese community in London. The tribute acknowledged their long-standing voluntary work and their role in supporting Sudanese families and newcomers over the years.
The programme also included recognition of several British figures who have helped provide support and assistance to Sudanese arrivals in recent months.
Members of the Women for Peace group also took part in the event, joining the ceremony to honour pioneering Sudanese women who have contributed to community work and social initiatives.
A message on Ramadan and women’s role

During the evening, the president of the community delivered a short speech congratulating attendees on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. She also noted that the gathering coincided with International Women’s Day, observed globally on 8 March.
In her remarks, she highlighted the important role Sudanese women play in strengthening families and communities, both within Sudan and among the diaspora.
Strengthening community ties

Following the event, the community’s media office issued a statement thanking individuals and organisations whose financial and logistical support helped make the iftar possible.
The office emphasised that such annual gatherings are intended to strengthen social connections among Sudanese people in Britain and provide an opportunity for the community to come together during Ramadan.
