Muslim communities from across London and neighbouring areas are preparing to mark Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH / 2026 with one of the largest faith and community gatherings in west London. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 March, at Byron Hall in Harrow and is expected to attract Arab families alongside friends and neighbours from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Organisers describe the gathering as both a spiritual celebration and a social occasion aimed at strengthening community bonds in Britain’s multicultural environment.

Religious programme led by prominent scholars

Doors will open early in a festive atmosphere as worshippers come together to observe Eid prayers in a public setting.

The prayer will be led by Qur’an reciter Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Jaki, while the Eid sermon will be delivered by Islamic scholar Dr Haitham al-Haddad.

Schedule of prayers and activities

  • 9:00 a.m. – Eid prayer (attendees are encouraged to bring their own prayer mats)

  • 11:00 a.m. – Start of the accompanying family festival and entertainment programme

  • Later in the day – Friday congregational prayer (Jumu‘ah) to be held at the same venue

Organisers say hosting both prayers at one location is intended to provide convenience for attendees and support greater participation.

Family festival celebrating Arab culture

Following the morning prayer, the venue will transform into a cultural and social gathering space featuring a range of activities designed for families and visitors.

Planned highlights include:

  • Cultural and folkloric performances showcasing elements of Arab heritage

  • A children’s talent stage aimed at encouraging creativity and participation

  • Games, gifts and traditional Eid token presents for young attendees

  • A food market featuring Arabic cuisine, including participation from the restaurant Ayyam Zaman

The festival is intended not only as a celebration of Eid but also as an opportunity for cross-cultural engagement within the wider British community.

Broad organisational support

The event is being coordinated through the collaboration of several community organisations serving Arab and Muslim residents in Britain. These include the Palestinian Forum in Britain, the Islamic Association of Britain, the Egyptian Association, the Tunisian Cultural Association, the Lebanese Association, Iraq’s Dar al-Salam Society, the Yaseen Youth Foundation and the Yemeni “Lamma” community network, alongside other partner groups.

Media coverage will be provided by Arabs in UK (AUK), Al-Hiwar TV and Islam Channel.

A celebration of community

Organisers say the gathering aims to offer more than festive activities.

“This event is not simply a festival,” they said in a joint statement. “It is a celebration of shared belonging. We look forward to welcoming families and friends to mark this special occasion together.”
