Moroccans Celebrating Their Victory by Dancing and Chanting in London Streets

Thousands of Arabs and Moroccans took to London streets on Tuesday evening, December 6, 2022, as Morocco became the first Arab team to qualify for the quarter-finals in the World Cup.

They celebrated the victory of the Moroccan national team over Spain in the round of sixteen of the World Cup in Qatar. One onlooker even described the scene as “a surreal experience” with smoke bombs being set off and everyone dancing to Arabic and African music.

The moment the final whistle was heard, hundreds of people went out to Egor Road in central London to celebrate their win. They walked from Oxford Street to Piccadilly Square, where they were joined by thousands to continue the celebrations chanting famous Moroccan chants.

Moroccon fans were joined by Arab from different nationalities and African people to celebrate Walid Regragui’s team.

Al Arab in UK platform was of course present in Piccadilly Square to share the joy and happiness of Morocco’s fans. Umm Sinan told one of our correspondents “This is a joy for all Arabs, not only for Moroccans”.

The Palestinian Tariq, who participated in the celebrations, carrying the Palestinian flag, said, “Morroco’s joy is a joy to all of us Arabs and Palestinians”.

Another fan, Mohammed, who was visiting from France, expressed his great happiness about the “Atlas Lions” achievement saying “Moroccans and Arabs deserve this great victory”

The Moroccan national team defeated the holder of the World Cup 2010, Spain, by penalty kicks after the original and extra time ended in a draw without goals. The now very famous goalkeeper Yassine Bounou stopped two penalty kicks which helped the team qualify for the quarter-finals of World Cup 2022.

Sabri and Ziyech scored two penalty kicks, but Paris Saint-Germain star, Ashraf Hakimi scored the final kick that led to the team’s winning.
