Arab Delegation in UK Visits Spanish Embassy in Appreciation of Its Support for Palestine
On Monday, June 24, 2024, a delegation from the Arab community in Britain visited the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in London. The visit was in appreciation of Madrid’s recognition of the Palestinian state and its support for South Africa’s case before the International Court of Justice regarding genocide crimes in Gaza.
They were received by Antonio Casado Regalat, Acting Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission and Political Consul at the embassy.
Regalat expressed his deep appreciation for this initiative and received a commemorative shield from Adnan Hmidan, the Chairman of the Arabs in Britain Platform, who presented it on behalf of the delegation.
He valued the visit, noting that Spain’s recognition of Palestine is primarily a humanitarian step before being a political one.
He also mentioned receiving dozens of letters from Arab figures in Britain expressing their gratitude for Spain’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause recently.
The Arab Delegation
The visiting delegation included:
- Sabah Al-Mukhtar, President of the Arab Lawyers Association.
- Dr. Anas Altikriti, CEO & Founder, The Cordoba Foundation.
- Zaher Birawi, President of the Palestinian Forum in Britain.
- Lujain Abdullah, Spokesperson for the Palestinian Forum in Britain.
- Adnan Hmidan, Head of the Arab Voice Campaign.
Discussions and Talks
The delegation and Acting Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission Regalat exchanged conversations about the latest political developments in the region, the impact of European and British elections on the situation in Gaza, and the potential role of Arab countries in cooperation with the United States to stop the aggression in Gaza.
Palestinian Rights
Adnan Hmidan, Editor-in-Chief of the Arabs in Britain Platform, delivered a speech on behalf of the delegation, saying: “On behalf of some leaders of the Arab community in the United Kingdom, we express our deep gratitude to Spain for its recent recognition of Palestine as a state, which constitutes a strong step towards peace and justice in the Middle East.”
He added, “We also appreciate the Spanish government’s support for the case filed by South Africa before the International Court regarding genocide crimes in Gaza.”
Hmidan concluded his speech by saying, “We can build a brighter tomorrow, and we hope to stop the war and immediately ceasefire in Gaza.”
Efforts to Strengthen Cooperation
This diplomatic visit is the second organized by the Arabs in Britain Platform, following a previous visit to the South African Embassy. This is part of British-Arab efforts to strengthen ties with governments and diplomatic missions that recognize Palestinian rights.
