Women’s day … reality vs. hope

Women's day ... reality vs. hope
15 March 2022

This year’s Women’s day will be the same as any of the last ones.

Some even decided to call it an “eid” but we will not get into that today!

Regardless of what you want to call it, let’s take a moment to think, did we really achieve enough to deserve a full day or “eid” to celebrates it?

And as each year, this one is no different, we celebrate Women’s Day while some women are still getting married at the age of 13, others are still going under psychological, emotional and sexual violence. Facing all types of abuse and to this day are unable to even continue their educations.

Likewise, there are challenges that immigrant Muslim women are still going through in the West, from racism and campaigns to ban their freewill to wear Hijab, and even forcing girls to undergo sexual education from an early age regardless of their or their parents wishes.

Or the fears a mother faces of losing her children and family to a hate crime. And the never ending struggle of balancing her beliefs, traditions, and cultures to what is considered the “norm” in the West without losing herself.

Some even follow this ideology, forgetting that as Muslim women God had granted us many of our rights.

And as Allah said: [For Muslim men and women,- for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in Charity, for men and women who fast (and deny themselves), for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah’s praise,- for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward.] (AlAhzab:35)

And in between all those thoughts, we note that the heaviest burden falls upon Muslim women in the west.

As they face the fast changing world and its challenges. And some times the woman requires the support of her community centers and mosques to be able to handle such burden.

And that is the true support a woman needs!

This what will help her grow and face the world, not the rhyming cheers and the pretty slogans.

Let us rise together, men and women, in order to improve the situation and our future.

Stay well ladies!
