During Sky News’ Sunday programme, Mr Zahawi said the government was considering deploying the army to assist with strike disruptions over Christmas. Twitter has been trending #Zahawi (UK TREND) for two days with over 50 thousand tweets. In addition, he urged nurses to accept a lower pay rise to send a “very clear message” to Vladimir Putin.

Twitter users have been calling Zahawi out for making false claims. In his statement, he stated that nurses earn a starting salary of £31,000. The statement is false and has never been true.

Nadhim Zahawi’s claims ‘demonize nurses’ by lying to the public, according to nurses.

Furthermore, Zahawi appears to believe nurses are ‘ Putin enablers ‘ for going on strike to receive what they deserve for the long and tiring hours they work.

Mr Zahawi believes the rise in inflation means that now is ‘ not the time for nurses to go on strike ‘. This is because they are hurting the most vulnerable by doing so. Zahawi’s comments infuriated people even more, since he claimed over five thousand pounds in expenses to heat his riding stables. During his time as a Member of Parliament, he was also able to bank £1.3 million from an oil company. Zahawi is therefore ‘ not in a moral position to lecture people about fairness’ , according to writer Taj Ali.

Many individuals were angered by the thousands of pounds he claimed in expenses to heat his riding stables, while over a third of Britons cannot afford to heat their homes this winter.

Nadhim Zahawi threatens to use military to break UK strikes!

Additionally, Nadhim Zahawi threatened to use the military to break their strike, to ‘protect the public and limit disruptions, during a period of huge pressure on the NHS’. The duplicity of his statements that ‘we must stand together’ and not allow inflation “divide us” infuriated the public. When he his “expenses claim is greater than a nurse on starting pay is asking for,” it suggests that he doesn’t think he or his personal expenses should be affected by inflation whereas hardworking nurses should.

Individuals also noted the fact that ‘MPs have received a pay rise every year and they receive a tax free ‘subsistence’ allowance’. They called tory MPs ‘nothing but hypocrites’.

Since the strikes were being blamed for harming people’s Christmas life, the public was angry with the Tory party. They act as though the public is unaware of their self-serving policies and their use of occasions like these for political gain.

Thousands of nurses are planning to walk out on December 15 and 20 as the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) demands a 19% pay rise above inflation.
