Shireen Abu Akleh … the voice of Palestine
All the words I could write or say could never do you justice.
Every time I close my eyes, I see you, standing in the middle of the scene, ending the news report, smiling despite your pain, with “Shireen Abu Akleh. Al Jazeera. Occupied Palestine”.
And every time I hear those words I think to myself, one day I will see you on the news with a big proud smile and hear you say “Shireen Abu Akleh. Al Jazeera. Liberated Palestine.”
Every day we lose those dearest to our hearts for the land closest to our soul.
But you will always be the pride of the land you defended and cried for. And if words fail to describe you and if all the words in the world betray you, history will not fail to write the truth about your acts.
And while our hearts break, traitors among us are lining the time of their lives. Oh, how I wish they took the time to learn the true meaning of bravery from you..
I wonder as everyone asks, how?! How can they enjoy their lives without being ashamed!? They call themselves men, but are they really?
Despite their constant tries to crush us, despite their oppression, we continue to fight for what was stolen from us.
We, my love Shireen, are on walking your path, the path your honourable ancestors once walked. We will continue demanding justice and truth for ourselves.
You were an example of what a wonderful and brave journalist should be. We were proud of you in your life and after your death and we will forever remain proud of you.
Occupation soldiers are criminals, but traitors are much greater criminals. Soldiers do not know whether you were Muslim, Christain, old, or young. But the traitor knows and they know and have seen the land drenched with Arabs blood, the blood they cared little to nothing about, blood similar to theirs but still so different
May God have mercy on you, martyr of truth… Shereen Nasri Antoine Abu Akleh, a Palestinian woman, born in Jerusalem on January 3, 1971, and was martyred while she was at the head of her work on May 11, 2022, a journalist and media correspondent for Al Jazeera, Monte Carlo International and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. She was the voice of Palestine and will remain in the memory of everyone.
