Ramadan 2024: When is the start and end of the holy month in UK?
As Muslims around the world welcome the holy month of Ramadan 2024, they seek to purify their souls and draw closer to Allah Almighty through fasting, praying, and giving charity.
Ramadan is also a time to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and affection among the Muslim community, and to promote the values of solidarity and social support.
When does Ramadan start in the UK?
In the UK, where Muslims make up about 5% of the population, the sighting of the crescent moon marks the beginning and end of Ramadan, which is expected to start on Monday, March 11, 2024, and end on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, according to the European Council for Fatwa and Research.
The council, which is composed of prominent Muslim scholars and jurists, relies on accurate astronomical calculations to determine the dates of the lunar months. The council stated that the new moon will start on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 09:01 am GMT, and will be visible in the Americas on the same night, making the next day the first of Ramadan.
Similarly, the new moon of Shawwal, the month that follows Ramadan, will start on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 18:21 GMT, and will not be visible anywhere in the world on that night, making the month of Ramadan complete 30 days, and the next day the first of Shawwal and the day of Eid al-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast.
The beginning of Ramadan 2024
We ask Allah Almighty to bless the Islamic nation in its holy month, and to accept from us and from you the good deeds.
And we do not forget in the meantime to pray for our people in Gaza, asking the Almighty to grant them security, faith, safety, and Islam, and to relieve their distress, and to make this holy month a month of victory and empowerment for them.
