Private lab has given 43,000 false negative Covid tests

A private laboratory in Wolverhampton was found to be giving out false negative Covid tests for an estimated 43 thousand people. Most of the incorrect results were seen in the South West of England.
According to the Independent, operations at the lab have been suspended.

This news comes after social media was full of reports of receiving a negative PCR test result, having previously returned a positive result through the lateral flow test.
How did the private lab make a mistake of such large proportion?
People immediately attributed the mistakes to the cheaper, quicker lateral flow tests. But the UK Health Security Agency has found that a private lab was giving out incorrect PCR results. That has led to concerns regarding other private labs as well.
Officials are currently investigating the reason for the inaccurate PCR results, and whether they are only due to technical issues within the private laboratory. During that period, the lab will remain closed to the public.
