AUK Announces Final Nominees for the 2025 Arab Personality of the Year Award

Al Arab in UK (AUK) has unveiled the final nominees for the Arab Personality of the Year Award 2025 (APYA 2025) — an annual celebration honouring Arab figures whose achievements have shaped their communities across Britain and beyond.

This year’s Third Annual Arab Gathering promises an evening of inspiration, excellence, and purpose — celebrating Arab identity, talent, and humanitarian impact. The gala will culminate in the announcement of the 2025 award winner, alongside a campaign to sponsor 1,000 orphans in Palestine and the wider Arab world.

A Night Celebrating Arab Excellence

This annual event stands as a unique platform to honour outstanding Arab contributions in Britain — spanning art, science, education, and community work.

The evening will feature a live performance by the London Arab Orchestra, conducted by Basel Saleh, followed by a three-course gala dinner and networking with leading Arab innovators, academics, and changemakers.

2025 Arab Personality of the Year Nominees

1. Cultural and Artistic Achievement

  • Basel Saleh – Syrian composer and orchestra conductor whose music bridges Arabic tradition with Western classical orchestration.
  • Naeim Alnajjar – Syrian-British beatboxer, the world’s first graduate in beatboxing, Guinness World Record holder, and advocate for using music as a tool for healing.
  • Saada Saif – Yemeni-British writer, editor, and founder of Balansia House, promoting Arab-British literary collaboration.
  • Saber Bamatraf – Yemeni composer and pianist based in Edinburgh, using music to explore peace, identity, and human resilience.
  • Shatha AlTowai – Yemeni visual artist and performer whose award-winning work examines displacement, cultural identity, and creative resistance.

2. Scientific and Academic Excellence

  • Dr. Ahmed Al Baghdadi – Iraqi educator and author, former Deputy Cultural Attaché in London, and creator of the widely adopted Arabic Book curriculum for children of Arab heritage.
  • Dr. Mohammed Shaaban – Molecular biologist and researcher at the Francis Crick Institute and Imperial College London, with publications in Nature and Molecular Cell.
  • Dr. Nour Ghadban – Syrian AI researcher at the University of Glasgow specialising in ethical and biomedical artificial intelligence.

3. Social Impact and Community Leadership

  • Ebrahim Osman-Mowafy – Law student at the University of Oxford and the first Arab President of the Oxford Union, recognised for his inclusive leadership and commitment to dialogue.
  • Hayfa Jawhar – Lebanese-British entrepreneur and founder of Bloom Delight, a luxury floral-and-chocolate gifting brand promoting women’s empowerment and sustainability.
  • Ibrahim Khadra – Palestinian-British journalist and beIN Sports correspondent known for connecting Arab audiences with British and global sports.
  • Mohammed Amin – Palestinian-British journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Arab London, author and commentator on Arab identity and media in the UK.
  • Ofrah Muflahi – Senior nurse and healthcare leader, founder of the British Arab Nursing and Midwifery Association (BANMA), who has led over 30 humanitarian missions in Gaza.

Beyond recognising achievement, the award embodies a spirit of solidarity and compassion. Proceeds from the gala will support humanitarian projects aiding orphans and vulnerable families in Palestine and the Arab world, in partnership with Action for Humanity, Sawa, and Palm Funeral Services.
