Campaign Urges Online Mobilisation in Support of Al-Aqsa Mosque
The Friends of Al-Aqsa has called for widespread participation in a coordinated global social media campaign in support of Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid growing concern over restrictions imposed on the site.
The digital campaign, scheduled for Saturday, 4 April 2026, will take place on X between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m., under the hashtag #HandsOffAlAqsa.
The initiative follows the closure of the mosque since 28 February, a move that has drawn widespread criticism across Muslim communities and human rights circles, alongside warnings over the long-term implications of continued restrictions on one of Islam’s holiest sites.
A coordinated digital response

Organisers say the campaign aims to amplify global awareness by encouraging concentrated online engagement within a short timeframe. The goal is to highlight the religious and cultural significance of Al-Aqsa, while drawing attention to what campaigners describe as ongoing violations and risks facing the site.
The call comes amid wider regional tensions, taking place against the backdrop of the Israeli-American aggression on Iran, as well as continuing developments in Jerusalem.
Campaign organisers emphasised that “supporting Al-Aqsa is a shared responsibility”, arguing that coordinated online action can help break what they see as a cycle of silence and place pressure on decision-makers to adopt clearer positions.
A symbol beyond borders

For many participants, the campaign reflects more than a single political moment. Al-Aqsa Mosque holds enduring symbolic significance for Muslims worldwide, making it a focal point of concern that transcends national and geographic boundaries.
Organisers say the initiative also seeks to counter what they view as attempts to normalise restrictions or present them as a fait accompli, by keeping the issue visible in both public discourse and political debate.
How to take part

Participants are encouraged to contribute to the campaign by:
- Posting about Al-Aqsa Mosque during the designated time window
- Using the hashtag #HandsOffAlAqsa in all posts
- Sharing verified information and awareness content
- Engaging with posts to increase global reach
From digital momentum to political impact
Al-Arab in UK (AUK) sees such campaigns as key to sustaining international attention, especially as global crises compete for visibility. However, the longer-term challenge lies in translating public engagement into meaningful political and legal action capable of protecting religious sites and safeguarding Palestinian rights.
Sustained public engagement — both online and offline — remains essential to ensuring that the issue of Al-Aqsa does not fade amid competing global priorities.
