Muslim Association of Britain Hosts Ramadan Iftar in West London

The Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), led by Raghd Al-Tikriti, hosted a Ramadan iftar in West London on Sunday, 9 March 2025, bringing together around 200 guests, including politicians, journalists, human rights activists, and members of the Arab and Muslim communities.
The event is part of MAB’s annual efforts to foster community cohesion and solidarity. It also served as a platform to discuss global issues, with the Palestinian cause a key focus of the evening.
Recognition for Palestinian Advocacy
Several individuals were honoured for their contributions to Palestinian advocacy, including Chris Nineham and Ben Jamal, head of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, who was recognised for his work in defending Palestinian rights and organising awareness campaigns in the UK.
One of the evening’s most notable moments was a speech by Palestinian journalist Yara Eid, who had recently arrived from Gaza. She provided a firsthand account of conditions in the territory, describing the humanitarian challenges faced by civilians and the resilience of the Palestinian people. Her speech was met with a strong emotional response from the audience.
The event opened with a recitation from the Qur’an by Sheikh Haitham Tamim, the Mufti of the Lebanese Sunni community in the UK. He also closed the gathering with a prayer for the Muslim world, including a special supplication for the Palestinian people.
Community Engagement and Dialogue
Following the iftar, attendees took part in discussions on issues affecting the Arab and Muslim communities in the UK, with a focus on the importance of solidarity and collective action in addressing global challenges.
The Muslim Association of Britain hosts this annual iftar as part of its efforts to strengthen community ties and highlight pressing humanitarian issues, with Palestine remaining a central concern.
