Mum saves her baby’s life after GP ignores symptoms

A concerned mum was able to save her toddler boy’s life from an illness ignored by a GP twice. The baby was vomiting after every feed, showed difficulty in breathing, and developed a chesty cough. She now calls on other mums to trust their intuition.
For almost 2 days, Courtney Nixon’s son Colton could not deep milk down. She decided to consult a local GP in Fernwood, Nottingham, reported the Mirror. The doctor claimed there was nothing wrong with the baby.
Mother’s Intuition
When he stopped feeding altogether the next day, Courtney returned to the GP, according to the Mirror. She was told that the baby was just dehydrated, and to take him to a nearby hospital.
Afterwards, a simple oxygen check uncovered that his oxygen levels were in the 40s, and he was diagnosed with bronchitis. Seven-week-old Colton spent over 48 hours on oxygen in ICU.

“They told me at the hospital that if I had not taken him in when I did, he would not have made it through the afternoon,” Courtney told the Mirror. “It would have been registered as a cot death, because the GP had failed to pick up on what was wrong with him.”
Courtney is a mum of 5: three sons aged nine, five and two, as well as a four-year-old daughter, is now encouraging GPs to carry out oxygen tests on young children, and normalise that as a practice.
As an experienced mother, she said she knew that her baby’s symptoms were worrisome for a reason.
She now tells other mums not to be afraid “to push the doctors if you feel they’re not right”.
