During her campaign for Prime Minister, Lis Truss told the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) group that, if elected, she would move the UK Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Liz mentioned her promise again during a meeting at the United Nations with her “dear friend” Yair Lapid, the Israeli prime minister of the transitional government.
Israel occupied and captured East Jerusalem along with the rest of the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the June War of 1967, and is still considered by the international community as an occupied territory.
The status of Jerusalem is disputed in both international law and diplomatic practice, with both the Israelis and Palestinians claiming Jerusalem as their capital city. The main dispute is regarding the Eastern part of the city which Palestinians claim as their capital.
And to move the embassy to Jerusalem would be to recognise Israel’s invasion and occupation of east Jerusalem as legitimate
And for that, the vast majority of countries in the world refrain from moving their embassies to Jerusalem to protest the zionist occupation of East Jerusalem, which took place in 1967. In 2018, however, the United State of America moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, followed by Honduras, Guatemala and Kosovo.

The Biggest Israel Supporter
Many call Liz Truss the biggest Israel supporter and a strong ally of Britain’s Jewish community.
While she served as Secretary of State, Liz Truss did not suggest nor did she seek to move the British Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. And so, one can safely assume that she raised this issue now to benefit her political stand as she campaigned for Prime Minister.
During her campaign, she began supporting Israel and more specifically the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) group, whose membership includes most of the members of its cabinet. And even an Israeli newspaper recently described Liz Truss as “the most pro-Israel prime minister in the history of Britain ever.”
And in that ignoring Britain’s historical responsibility in the Palestinian struggle, where the Balfour Declaration promised the land of Palestine to give as a homeland for the Jews.

Consequences of Moving the UK Embassy
The decision to move the British Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is morally untenable and politically harmful. It would be one of the most brutal British decisions regarding the Palestinian state since the Balfour Declaration.
It will also encourage Israel to continue to act with impunity, and will increase its tyranny. Israel and its supporters in the UK will surely welcome this decision, despite the damage it will cause Britain.
And rather than questioning the embassy’s location, the British government should re-evaluate its relationship with Israel in light of current realities. As in the last two years, at least three humanitarian organizations had called Israel an apartheid state in their reports.
These reports document Israel’s ethnic cleansing, land appropriation, home demolitions, detention of minors, and condoning settler violence.
And how will the United Kingdom look supporting such a zionist and discriminating state?
Lisa Truss will realize the enormity of the loss the already exhausted British economy will witness if she and her party persist in her plan to move the British embassy.
