Iraqi Academics Tackle Cancer Challenges in London
Launching its first academic programme of 2025, the Association of Iraqi Academics (AIA) organised a seminar titled “Cancer Diseases” on Saturday, 25 January, at Rivercourt Methodist Church in Hammersmith, London. The event brought together a prominent audience of academics and medical professionals.
Professor Adel Hisham, a Consultant Oncologist in the UK, delivered an insightful presentation on the latest advancements in liver cancer treatment. His discussion highlighted the promise of immunotherapies and explored the impact of tumour-causing viruses.
Dr. Tahseen Al-Rubaie, Clinical Oncologist and General Secretary of the Iraqi Cancer Board under Iraq’s Ministry of Health, focused on prostate cancer treatments. He shared findings on the effectiveness of radiotherapy and stressed the importance of clinical research.
Moderation by Dr. Leonard Yacoub ensured a dynamic and engaging session. Thought-provoking discussions followed the presentations, with participants exploring ways to advance oncology research and promote collaboration between Iraqi academics worldwide.
Attendees engaged in lively dialogue, addressing challenges in healthcare and brainstorming strategies to improve awareness of early cancer detection and prevention. The interactive format fostered meaningful exchanges between experts and participants.
