After a very difficult time for Brighton’s residents and visitors, the strike is finally due to come to an end. Bin lorries were spotted yesterday collecting some rubbish and will also be clearing some more today.

Local residents are relieved with the result of the agreement and are now preparing to take out their rubbish to be collected, after having to keep it indoors for a number of weeks.

GMB union and Brighton & Hove City Council come to an agreement to end the bin strike

Mark Turner, the GMB branch secretary, is happy with the ‘generous’ offer put forward by the Brighton & Hove City Council to raise the wages of the CityClean employees.

The council acknowledges the disturbance this situation has caused for the residents and has apologised for it. Mr Turner is likewise aware of the impact that the strike has had on the residents, but he explained that they had no other option.

If no agreement had been reached between the two parties, another 5-week strike would have commenced from the 21st of October. We can now move past this and finally begin to see and appreciate a clean Brighton City again.
