“Empty Pots” Protest: Tens of Thousands Rally Outside Downing Street Against Gaza Starvation
Tens of thousands gathered outside 10 Downing Street in a powerful show of solidarity with the people of Gaza, answering a call from the UK-based Coalition for Palestine. Protesters brought empty pots and pans, banging them throughout the demonstration in a striking act of protest against the enforced starvation of Palestinians under siege.
The clatter echoed through Whitehall, symbolising the desperate hunger faced by children, families and the elderly in Gaza — many of whom now queue for hours for basic aid. Organisers described it as a stand against what they called a “deliberate policy of humiliation” imposed by those controlling aid flows into the besieged strip.
Protest organisers also condemned the role of the so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation — a group reportedly linked to US and Israeli interests — accused of overseeing aid distribution in a way that has excluded hundreds of thousands.
Multiple reports allege that queues for food and water have come under direct attack, with hundreds killed while waiting, since the latest phase of the Israeli assault began.
Speakers at the protest called what’s happening in Gaza “a crime against humanity”, urging the British government — especially Muslim ministers — to turn statements of concern into real action to stop the famine and lift the siege.
As the protest drew to a close, many demonstrators laid their empty pots outside Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s residence, sending a clear message: Gaza is starving — and the UK must not look away.
