UK Granted Visas for a Group of Female Footballers From Afghanistan
A young group of female footballers from Afghanistan had been granted visas from the UK, as the girls escape from Taliban ruling.
As reported by Sky News, after the Taliban had taken over Afghanistan in August, the female football team escaped to Pakistan.
At the time, they did not have much time left on their Pakistani visas, they were terrified of going back to Afghanistan under Taliban ruling. Taliban had banned girls from playing football.
The 18-year-old Narges told Sky News “The only thing all of us know is that we don’t want to go back to Afghanistan again”.
Narges also added, “The only thing we want from your government is to find a host country for us in order to help us to be happy again and be good football players in the future.”
Narges and her teammate Sabria had thanked their new British friend from the ROKiT foundation earlier “We are grateful especially to the efforts from our new British friend Siu-Anne Marie Gill from the ROKIT Foundation for inspiring us to keep believing that the UK will fight for saving our lives”
Ms. Gill had told Sky News “We learned on Friday that the UK government has granted authority for the Afghan National Women’s Junior Football Team to come to the UK.” She also added, “We are most grateful to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Priti Patel for this life-saving decision.”

“The next step is to settle them into their new home. We will do all we can to support them in this process”
A spokesman for the government stated to Sky News “We are working to finalise visas to the Afghan Women’s Development Team and look forward to welcoming them to the UK shortly.”
He added, “The government is committed to doing all it can to support those most in need, including vulnerable women and girls, and those at risk who have had to flee Afghanistan.”
The spokesman had also added, “The UK’s evacuation operation helped over 15,000 people to safety including British nationals, Afghan locally employed staff, and other vulnerable people.”
