How to have a British wedding with the lowest expenses
A British couple was able to save thousands on their wedding. They hosted the ceremony with the lowest expenses at £4,000 on 130 guests, by using a couple of DIY tricks.
The couple used second-hand websites such as eBay and Facebook Marketplace to their benefit, said the Independent. From Nottinghamshire, the newlyweds said they saved about £15,000 in their wedding ceremony by using some simple, but exhausting tricks.
In March, Alex and Dan set the date for August. Only 5 months away, family and friends had to step in, so that the DIY wedding preparations could be completed in time.
“I searched online and saw a lot of people saying their weddings cost upwards of £20,000, and we weren’t going to spend that,” said Alex.
How did they manage to host the big day at a low cost?
The couple had their service at a local church – totalling £536 – then they hosted the reception in the back garden. They cut costs on music by using a free YouTube trial.
The outfits worn by the couple were second hand. The bride’s own dress, originally worth over £1500, was found at just £220 on Facebook Marketplace. She also grew her own bouquet in her back garden. The enormous marquees erected in their back garden were borrowed from friends for free, with £160 spent on strands of lights.
The three-tier wedding cake was made as a wedding gift by a family member. While the buffet was the bride’s friends’ effort, reports the Independent. Shopping at Aldi, they got the whole lot for £400, around £3 a guest.
As for the decorations, the couple found most of what they needed in stores such as The Range and Dunelm, all for under £200. Entertainment included hiring a local musician for £150, a photo booth for £275 and a children’s bouncy castle for £50.
The total cost of the wedding came to around £4,030 – instead of the tens of thousands many spend. The lower costs did not make the wedding any less perfect.
