Sheikh Haitham Tamim: The Prophet ﷺ Looked Upon Humanity with Mercy, Not Division
Dar al-Fatwa in the United Kingdom held a spiritual gathering at Park Royal Club in London on Sunday evening, 13 September 2026, as part of celebrations marking the Mawlid, the birth of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
How the Prophet ﷺ Viewed People
Delivering the main address, Sheikh Haytham Tamim, head of Dar al-Fatwa in Britain, reflected on the different ways in which people viewed the Prophet ﷺ—as believers, rejecters or hypocrites—and contrasted this with the way the Prophet ﷺ regarded humanity as a whole.
He described the Prophetic outlook as one rooted in mercy, citing the Qur’anic verse: “We have sent you only as a mercy to the worlds” (Qur’an 21:107).
A Prophetic Vision of a Balanced Life
Sheikh Tamim presented a Prophetic vision of life founded on balance, saying that a well-grounded person avoids both excess and neglect, as well as extremism and complacency.
He explained that strength was not sanctioned as a means of oppression or domination, but as a means of preventing injustice, protecting the vulnerable and upholding justice.
Wealth, he added, may be attractive—described in the Prophetic tradition as “green and sweet”—but it should not become a path to extravagance or unchecked desire. Instead, it should be used to meet legitimate needs and fulfil the rights of others.
Sheikh Tamim also stressed that authority and leadership are not privileges to be exploited, but a trust and a responsibility for which a person is accountable before Allah.
Muslims, he said, should work and strive in this world without being deceived by it, while remembering that the Hereafter remains their ultimate destination.
Four Relationships at the Heart of the Prophetic Seerah
During his address, Sheikh Tamim outlined four fundamental relationships defined by the Prophetic Seerah.
The first is the relationship with Allah, built through faith, worship, gratitude, reliance upon Him and obedience.
The second is the relationship with other people, guided by mercy, justice, good character and respect for their rights.
The third is a person’s relationship with themselves, which requires balance, discipline, spiritual purification and care for both body and soul.
The fourth is the relationship with the environment and other living beings, founded on stewardship, responsibility and moderation, while avoiding waste and harm.
Sheikh Tamim said that balance lies at the heart of all four relationships: giving everyone—and every part of life—its proper due without excess or neglect.
Nasheeds and Praise of the Prophet ﷺ
The gathering also featured devotional nasheeds that added to the spiritual atmosphere of the Mawlid celebration.
The Al-Safa Nasheed Group, led by vocalist Rafiq al-Muhib, performed a selection of well-known songs and praises of the Prophet ﷺ, including Ya Taybah, Qamarun Sayyidna al-Nabi and Mawlaya Salli wa Sallim.
The programme also included several artistic performances that enriched the evening and its celebration of the life and message of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
