Founding Council of the Jordanian Community in Britain Opens Membership Ahead of November Elections

The Founding Council of the Jordanian Community in Britain (JCUK) has opened membership and registration to Jordanians living across Britain, in a move it says will pave the way for completing the formation of the General Assembly and moving towards the election of a Board of Directors.

According to a statement issued by the Founding Council, the opening of membership follows the completion of a number of organisational procedures related to the entity. These include the adoption of the Articles of Association in English, the preparation of an Arabic translation, and making it available through the organisation’s website. The aim is to allow prospective members to review the membership requirements, as well as members’ rights, responsibilities and mechanisms for participation.

The council said the entity was established in Britain as a non-profit Company Limited by Guarantee, with the aim of providing an institutional framework for community work and serving members of the Jordanian community in cultural, social and professional fields.

Membership Now Open

The council explained that membership is available under the categories and conditions set out in the Articles of Association, urging those wishing to register to review the governing document before submitting their membership applications.

According to the statement, full membership, subject to the specified conditions, grants members the right to participate in the General Assembly, vote and stand for election. The Articles of Association also define other membership categories, along with the rights and obligations associated with each category.

Board Elections to Take Place in November

The Founding Council announced that elections for the Board of Directors will be held during the week beginning 23 November 2026.

Further details of the electoral process will be announced at a later stage, including the dates for opening and closing nominations, the voting mechanism and the election timetable.

Under the Articles of Association published by the council, the Board of Directors will consist of 11 members serving a two-year term. The board will elect a chair in accordance with the relevant provisions.

The council confirmed that its role is limited to the founding phase and that management of the entity will be transferred to an elected Board of Directors once the electoral process has been completed and the results announced.

Governance and Financial Oversight Mechanisms

The statement said the organisation’s institutional framework includes mechanisms for participation and elections, as well as financial oversight procedures and arrangements for managing resources and financial reporting.

The council also announced that the election process will be conducted through what it described as an independent and impartial mechanism, under the supervision of an electoral committee and an independent election officer, with the aim of ensuring transparency throughout voting and counting procedures.

The chair of the Founding Council, Professor Dr Ghassan Al Utaibi, said that opening membership represents a step towards moving from the founding phase to a stage in which members of the Jordanian community can participate in selecting the Board of Directors.

Al Utaibi called on Jordanians living across Britain to review the Articles of Association, register and take part in the next stage.

Multiple Frameworks and Initiatives for the Jordanian Community in Britain

The announcement comes as the Jordanian community scene in Britain includes a number of organisations and initiatives bringing members of the community together across various social, cultural, professional and national activities.

Among these is the Jordanian Community in Britain, chaired by Helmi Al-Harahsheh, which continues to organise social events and activities for members of the community. It also has a WhatsApp group with more than 500 members.

The “Jordanians in Britain” initiative, chaired by Dalal Jibril, is also active in organising events and gatherings for Jordanians in several British cities. The initiative has a Facebook group with more than 16,000 members.

Other initiatives and activities are also active in social, cultural and professional fields, including the Jordanian Doctors in Britain group.

The establishment of JCUK and the opening of membership therefore come within this diverse landscape of Jordanian community organisations and initiatives in Britain, with each entity continuing its activities according to its own objectives and organisational structure.
