Professor Qusay Al-Ahmadi Wins 2026 Best Cultural Attaché Award
Professor Qusay Al-Ahmadi, Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the United Kingdom, has received the 2026 Best Cultural Attaché Award for the Middle East in recognition of his efforts to strengthen academic and cultural cooperation between Iraq and the United Kingdom.
The Embassy Network announced Al-Ahmadi as the winner during its annual Education Conference, hosted by King’s College London and attended by representatives of diplomatic missions and academic and educational institutions from around the world.
The network presents the award annually to cultural and education attachés serving in diplomatic missions in the United Kingdom, recognising their role in advancing academic relations, supporting students, and building partnerships between universities and educational institutions. The award covers five geographical regions, with one winner selected from each region.
Qusay Al-Ahmadi Recounts the Moment His Name Was Announced

Speaking about the honour, Al-Ahmadi said that nearly a year ago, he had embarked on a new assignment in a new country with the aim of ensuring that Iraq had the presence and representation it deserved. He noted that he had not expected the efforts made during that period to receive such recognition.
He added that he was standing in a corner of the hall, observing the gathering, when his name was announced as the winner of the 2026 Best Cultural Attaché Award for the Middle East. Al-Ahmadi dedicated the honour to Iraq and his home city of Mosul.
Who Is Professor Qusay Al-Ahmadi?

Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi was born in Mosul on 29 July 1966. He completed his early education in the city before enrolling in the College of Engineering at the University of Mosul.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering before obtaining a PhD in the same field, with a focus on environmental engineering, from Saint Petersburg State University in Russia. He also conducted postdoctoral studies in environmental engineering at the University of North Texas in the United States.
Al-Ahmadi held several academic and administrative positions at the University of Mosul, including Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Dean of the College of Environmental Sciences, and Dean of the College of Petroleum and Mining Engineering, before becoming President of the University in 2019.
He later moved into diplomatic and cultural work as Cultural Attaché at the Iraqi Embassy in London, where he oversees the affairs of Iraqi students and works to strengthen ties between Iraqi and British universities and academic institutions.
Expertise in Environmental Engineering and Water Projects

Al-Ahmadi has extensive academic and practical experience in environmental engineering and has contributed to environmental impact assessment studies for a number of industrial and public-service projects in Iraq.
He has also contributed to the design, implementation, and rehabilitation of projects involving wastewater and industrial water treatment, water supply, and water infrastructure. These projects have served factories, hospitals, power stations, cities, and other facilities across Nineveh Governorate and other parts of Iraq.
Al-Ahmadi is a member of several professional and scientific bodies, including the Iraqi Engineers Union and the Federation of Arab Engineers, as well as specialised associations in the fields of environmental science and wetlands.
