Lumo launch Edinburgh and London train fares for as little as £15
A new budget train between Edinburgh and London is set to launch with ticket prices as low as £15.
Lumo, by FirstGroup, is an all-electric service which will initially run four times a day between the two capital cities.
Prices for return tickets have been capped at £69 for the journey which is believed to take around four hours and 30 minutes.
However, between Monday October 25 and Wednesday December 1, fares will be £19.90 or less if booked by the previous day.
Lumo added that 60% of all future single tickets will be available at £30 and the cheapest return ticket could be as low as £29.80.
The Hitachi class 803 trains are thought to be a more environmentally friendly alternative to air travel between Edinburgh and London.
It is estimated that it will cause six times less CO2 emissions than getting a plane between the two cities would do.
However, the service will also call at Morpeth, Newcastle and Stevenage in order to provide rail links to nearby airports.
It is hoped that there will be 10 daily services by the beginning of next year, carrying millions of passengers from then on.
