European Council of Imams: Delegation That Visited Israel Does Not Represent Europe’s Muslims

The European Council of Imams has issued a public statement in response to media reports about a delegation of individuals claiming to be imams from Europe who recently visited the occupying Israeli state. The Council firmly disavowed the visit, stating that the individuals involved are unknown to the Muslim religious community in Europe and have no affiliation with recognised Islamic institutions. The full statement is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Extremely Merciful, the Continuously Merciful
Clarifying Statement Regarding the Visit of So-Called Imams from Europe — Unknown Among Muslims — to the Occupying Israeli State
All praise is due to Allah, and the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, his companions, and those who follow him.
At a time when Muslims, humanitarian organisations, various religious groups, and all people of conscience around the world are rallying in solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people and calling for an end to the genocide being perpetrated by the Zionist occupation army, we were shocked by media outbursts of a visit by so-called imams to the occupying Israeli state and their meeting with its criminal figures. This act is in stark contradiction to any human or moral sensibility and stands in opposition to the most basic Islamic principles that call for standing with the oppressed, rejecting injustice, and showing loyalty to the vulnerable Muslims.
In this regard, the European Council of Imams strongly condemns this disgraceful act and affirms the following:
Firstly: The members of this delegation are unknown in Europe among imams and Muslim preachers, and they have no connection to reputable religious institutions or trusted Islamic organisations known among European Muslims.
Secondly: The context and sponsors of this visit clearly reveal its provocative and showy nature, aimed at serving suspicious agendas. It in no way reflects the firm stance of European Muslims in solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza and their condemnation of the brutal genocide being committed by the Zionist occupation army. The ongoing protests and daily events in cities across Europe stand as clear evidence of this unwavering position.
Thirdly: The European Council of Imams calls upon all imams, scholars, activists, and freedom-loving people of all faiths to intensify efforts in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and to confront the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Gaza.
It considers any attempt to whitewash the crimes of the occupier to be a betrayal of Allah, His Messenger, and the blood of the oppressed.
The Council also warns against efforts to distort consciousness and undermine foundational principles through paid or misguided individuals.
We ask Allah, the Exalted, to strengthen the hearts of our brothers in Palestine, to grant victory to the people of Gaza against the oppressors, and to return them to their homes and lives in safety and dignity.
There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
– European Council of Imams
