The 4th Arab–British Economic Summit took place in London on Monday 23 June 2025, under the theme “Friendship Through Trade.” Held at the Hilton London Metropole and organised by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), the summit brought together around 700 delegates to explore stronger strategic partnerships between the UK and the Arab world.

The event focused on the post-Brexit and post-pandemic landscape, placing special emphasis on low-carbon economies, digital innovation, and the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of trade and development.

Bandar Ali Reda, Secretary‑General and CEO of the ABCC, emphasised that Arab youth are inspired by AI opportunities, but warned that rapid innovation must be accompanied by smart regulatory frameworks. He also praised the Gulf’s advanced AI capabilities and urged deeper UK–GCC collaboration.

AI and Smart Cities Take Centre Stage

A key session titled “Smart Cities and the Promise of AI” featured Andrew Elia, Founder and Managing Director at Arishi, who discussed how AI can drive improvements across financial systems and environmental sustainability. He encouraged British companies to adapt their tech models to Gulf market dynamics, emphasising the importance of cultural and regulatory alignment

E-Commerce and Digital Finance

In a separate panel led by Karim Fatehi OBE, Director at the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, experts explored how SMEs can benefit from e-commerce growth. Tom Wintle, the UK’s Chief Negotiator for the UK–GCC Free Trade Agreement, highlighted the benefits of reduced tariffs and expanded digital services, while noting ongoing regulatory challenges.

Key Outcomes and Recommendations

The summit concluded with practical recommendations:

  • Encourage joint investment ventures between UK and Middle East entities.
  • Expand digital infrastructure in the UK, with plans to accelerate national data‑centre development.
  • Launch a UK–GCC E‑Commerce Trade Committee to help UK SMEs access Gulf markets through improved logistics and regulatory support.

At Al Arab in UK (AUK), we see this summit as a crucial step in reshaping UK–Arab economic relations through a sustainable, tech-driven perspective. The growing focus on digital transformation and AI aligns with the ambitions of Arab professionals and businesses in Britain, many of whom are already driving innovation across sectors. As both regions look to the future, fostering inclusive and practical partnerships remains essential.
