On October 7, 2024, Alarab in UK Platform organized a visit to Rami Mortadha, the Lebanese Ambassador to London, attended by representatives from the Arab and Palestinian communities in the UK in response to recent Israeli aggression extending from Gaza to Lebanon.

The delegation included members from various organizations, such as the Palestinian Forum, the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, and the Islamic Association in Britain, along with health sector workers, journalists, and independent figures. Notable attendees included Adnan Hmidan, head of the Alarab in UK Platform; Hafiz Al-Karmi, former president of the Palestinian Forum; Dr. Ghada Al-Karmi, a Palestinian physician and writer; and Raghda Al-Takriti, head of the Shura Council of the Islamic Association.

Ambassador Mortadha welcomed the gathering, highlighting the Arab community’s collective support for Palestine and Lebanon. He emphasized the moral and legal strength of Lebanon’s position, affirming the right of the Lebanese people to defend themselves under international law. He condemned attempts to justify Israel’s claims of self-defense while it continues to commit genocides.

He called for an immediate ceasefire, warning that any delay could lead to a repeat of the Gaza crisis. Mortadha expressed frustration at the narrative portraying the aggressor as the victim, reiterating that Israel is skilled only in violence.

Mobilizing the Arab Community

Adnan Hmidan labeled the Israeli aggression as a crime against humanity, calling for national unity and resilience. He urged all political and social forces to support the Lebanese people, particularly those displaced by violence, and to pressure the International Criminal Court to take action against Israeli aggressors.

Dr. Hafiz Al-Karmi emphasized the importance of international law in addressing the Israeli occupation and reaffirmed the interconnectedness of Arab fates. Raghda Al-Takriti highlighted the significance of grassroots movements in advocating for Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause.

Acknowledging Resilience

Dr. Ghada Al-Karmi expressed solidarity with Lebanon, acknowledging the shared suffering caused by Israeli policies. British rapper Loki praised Lebanon’s steadfastness, asserting that Israel has become more fragile than ever due to the resilience of the Lebanese people.

The visit concluded with the delegation presenting a plaque to Ambassador Rami Mortadha, recognizing his efforts to amplify the Lebanese voice in British political and diplomatic circles. This gathering underscored the strength of community solidarity and the urgent need for continued advocacy in light of ongoing regional crises.
