أثار قرار هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية (BBC) بعدم إيقاف تغطية مباراة تشيلسي وتوتنهام أثناء حفل افتتاح مونديال قطر جدلًا واسعًا، وأصبح ترند بريطانيا على تويتر.
وعبر إعلاميون مثل بيرس مورغان عن استيائهم من هذا القرار، وحققت تغريدة مورغان أكثر من 80 ألف إعجاب، و5 آلاف تعليق، مع انتشار هاشتاج “BBC” في أكثر من 100 ألف تغريدة.
Outrageously disrespectful to Qatar that the BBC didn’t broadcast the World Cup opening ceremony, and instead put out more virtue-signalling guff about how awful it is. If they’re that appalled, they should bring home their vast army of employees & spare us this absurd hypocrisy.

تعرضتْ (BBC) لانتقادات شديدة من المشاهدين لعدم بثها حفل افتتاح كأس العالم، وتركيزها على انتقاد قطر لاستضافتها كأس العالم هذا العام، مع أنها لم تطرح أي قضية من قبل، مثل انتهاك حقوق الإنسان في الصين خلال دورة الألعاب الأولمبية لعام 2008 أو استضافة روسيا لكأس العالم 2018.

وزعم بعض المغردين أن قرار (BBC) بعدم بث حفل الافتتاح هو قرار منحاز ليس ضد قطر فقط، بل أيضًا ضد الإسلام بوصفه دينًا ورسالةً “للحب والسلام بين جميع الشعوب”، وقد سُلِّط الضوء على هذه الرسالة خلال حفل الافتتاح الذي تضمن تلاوة آيات من القرآن الكريم.

Excellent question. The answer is a mix of Islamophobia, racism and xenophobia. There won’t be a peep about human rights when the US hold the World Cup in 2026. This is despite the US having arguably the world’s worst human rights record in the last 20 years.

قدَّم تغطيةَ بي بي سي لقطر 2022 غاري لينيكر الذي أشار إلى أن بطولة كأس العالم هذه هي “الأكثر إثارة للجدل في التاريخ”.
وفي كلمته الافتتاحية، زعم أن عملية اختيار الفيفا يشوبها الفساد، وقال: إن قطر أصغر دولة مضيفة لكأس العالم.
وعبر عن قلقه إزاء التقارير التي رصدت الانتهاكات التي تعرض لها العمال في قطر أثناء تحضيرات كأس العالم 2022، وأشار إلى أن العديد منهم فقدوا حياتهم أثناء بناء الاستاد وتجهيزه.
